Join us on Saturday, October 10th, for a hands-on workshop where you’ll learn how to safely and humanely process your own chickens. Our goal is to give you the skills and confidence to process chickens at home.
This class is perfect if you occasionally end up with an unexpected rooster in your flock, or if you’re interested in raising and processing your own meat birds. Home-raised chickens can be incredibly flavorful and are often far better than what you’ll find at the grocery store.
We’ll cover different types of chickens, equipment and supplies, humane dispatch methods, sanitation and food safety, and proper storage. We’ll demonstrate the entire process, from dispatch through preparing the chicken for the freezer.
Then it’s your turn! We’ll work with you step-by-step as you process your own chicken. And yes—we encourage participants to bring their own chicken or rooster to process during the class!
Disclaimer: Stating the obvious. This class is going to talk about processing chickens including the entire process. Children are welcome to attend and participate. Please only come if you're comfortable about the subject. It's OK to be nervous about it, we'll walk you through it.
